BBC confronts Ames on UK flight — source

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, March 20, IWN – It seems that the BBC team making the Panorama programme about Harlequin does not reserve its door-stepping and on-board aircraft tactics for leaders of “third world” countries.

Two BBC journalists working on the programme visited St. Vincent in February and had an encounter with Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves on board a landed aircraft in Barbados.

Gonsalves said that the journalists — Paul Kenyon and Matthew Hill — accosted him.

But, two separate sources told I-Witness News last week that the Panorama team dished out the same treatment to Dave Ames last week.

One source said on Thursday that Ames was confronted on a London — Dublin flight that day “in a similar respectful way as our Prime Minister, Mr. Gonsalves, was approached”.

“I think it’s hilarious that … Ames was on his own, … unable to answer any questions at all, aggressive on camera, sweating in [the cold] temperature,” the source said.

“Ames continually said, ‘Check our accounts’, even when told, ‘They can’t be checked as you haven’t submitted them for seven years.’”

Buccament Bay Resort Ltd., Harlequin’s main resort, has blamed its former UK auditor for not filing its financial statements or annual returns for the period from 2005-2012.

A January 17certificate of status, from the Registrar of Companies, has revealed that Buccament Bay is in “default of its obligations” under the Companies Act and is likely to be struck off the register.

“Ames continued, ‘Check our accounts.’ Other passengers were laughing at him as it continued. Good sport for them. Will make good viewing,” the source said.

The Panorama programme, dubbed “The Great Savings Wipe Out”, is scheduled to be broadcast on BBC One at 20:30 GMT (16:30 Eastern Caribbean) on March 25 and at 04:30 GMT (00:30 Eastern Caribbean) on March 28 on BBC News Channel.

In the show promo, the BBC says, “A twice-bankrupt, former double glazing salesman from Essex has collected an estimated quarter of a billion pounds from investors, which is now at risk. In one of Britain’s biggest ever pension scandals, he promised to build luxury rental homes in the Caribbean, some on the island of St Vincent, where the film Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed. Wimbledon tennis champion Pat Cash and golfing legend Gary Player helped promote the property scheme. However, reporter Paul Kenyon finds most of the planned properties have yet to be built and there are disputes over planning permission and land ownership.”

  1. Wait a second here, are we now comparing a foreign investor to the OFFICE OF THE PRIME MINISTER of St. Vincent and the Grenadines?

When the BBC REPORTERS can APPROACH the OFFICE of the PRIME MINISTER of BRITAIN or the PM of BRITAIN in that MANNER, then we can take this issue with some sort of SERIOUSNESS.

Again, these BBC REPORTS are out of their … PLACE APPROACHING the LEADER of St. Vincent and the Grenadines in that MANNER.

In other words, that was no way to treat the OFFICE of the PRIME MINISTER of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

    • You need to just shut up. Did you see what those guys did and is still doing to Tony Blair?. These guys do not care, why don’t you get that through your head, he is our Prime Minister not . They were not breaking any laws, maybe there approach may have been a little brash, but nothing for you to get hot behind the collar about. Try and act like a man, all of your post are nothing more than the ramblings of a fanatic who is foaming at the mouth, because of your obsession with another man (The PM). These people are looking out for the well being of there people, which should be commended instead of insulted.

This is what ‘real’ reporters do, REPORT, from those two little plane incidents, we already know that the PM is scared, and that David Ames is a moron, that is great reporting in my opinion. I wish the news outlets in SVG were quarter as good as these guys, maybe then they would have investigated why a PM is giving reassuring kisses at 4 in the morning. Everything the PM does is always right, right?, what nonsense. Oh, and we’re still waiting for Camillo’s case results against the New York (The imperialist dutty dogs).police department.

  2. VINCYNEEDSASHOWERPOWA, well! well! Here we go again with all your crap. The Panorama can approach whoever they want. Don’t start that comparing Gonsalves with the British PM, a man that has never been accused of any criminal act. A man of good standing who doesn’t swear, curse and make rude and indecent gestures to or at the British citizens.

Gonsalves is the PM of a Third World country which was a Second World country until he got into power. Now he behaves like a Last World country leader and expects the same respect as a leader of a First World country. And you VINCYPOWA have assisted Gonsalves to remain in power. Well in my opinion you have to earn respect, and being one of what I consider the most ill behaved and disrespectful politicians in the World, he himself deserves no respect. He just does not know how to behave like a gentleman, so therefore he cannot be treated as one.

My choice early in life was either to be a piano-player in a whorehouse or a politician. And to tell the truth, there’s hardly any difference.

  3. VINCYNEEDSASHOWERPOWA, you 10 cent political fraud. We all noticed how much of a brave patriot you are, in your failure to comment on the following.

  4. VINCYNEEDSASHOWERPOWA, Isn’t this an apt saying for ‘Harlequin Man’ Dave Ames

I remain just one thing, and one thing only, and that is a clown. It places me on a far higher plane than any politician.
    ‘Charlie Chaplin’

See even Chaplin agrees that Dave Ames is on a higher plane than Gonsalves.

  6. PETER, i do not give LEGITIMACY to GARBAGE, so do not EXPECT a response.

As it PERTAINS to Tony BLAIR, clearly you know NOTHING of the MAN, just like you do not know much of anything, which is why in most instances you can only engage in NOISE MAKING.

That said; GO and EDUCATE yourself in regards to TONY BLAIR, because IGNORANCE seems to be a DISEASE that you’re SUFFERING from.

By the way, it seems like you’re SUFFERING from a COLONIAL STATE of MIND, which is something you need to REMOVE from your MEMBRANE..

    See you around, BUB.

  7. INSANEBLANE, the only one who needs to SHUT UP would be you and the other NOISE MAKING SUPPORTERS of the NDP.

What did they do to Tony Blair, accosted him on a PLANE in the manner stated by the BBC reporter?

The BBC REPORTERS stated that they TACKLE the PRIME MINISTER of the nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines when the LIAT FLIGHT came to a HALT in Barbabos. Do you know of any instances when they have done this to the PRIME MINISTER of Britain?

Give us some EXAMPLES of what they did to Tony Blair, so I do not CONCLUDE that you are just making NOISE.

That said; they broke the law by not DECLARING that they came to WORK in SVG. Moreover, they did the same by their action when the plane landed in Barbados.

When you are IGNORANT, you would not know this, so I will forgive you for your IGNORANCE.

  8. Vincypowa, You are nit picking like a school girl, you want the exact same situation to compare too? you really are more foolish than you sound. I can tell you that without a doubt if Tony Blair or David Cameron had given any woman a “reassuring” kiss early in the am who is not their woman, they would have been out of office because they would have enough shame to resign. The PM is wrong, he is not the same like those guys, because at least they have shame, and everybody in Vincy know the PM doesn’t have any shame. If the PM wasn’t running scared from the BBC they wouldn’t have had to ask him questions on a plane, why would they go on a plane if he would see them. Wouldn’t you prefer to ask questions in an air conditioned office instead of, hot smelly Liat?(yea I said Liat is smelly, but that’s a story for another time).

And this is the part that makes the man look more stupid. THE BBC CONTACTED YOU FOR ALMOST A WEEK BEFORE, but you say that you never got the message, and the best part is that the PM has a secretary whose job it is to answer any and every call and forward them to him. Don’t forget her job is to make sure that he doesn’t miss a call. But here we have a series of miss calls for almost a whole week, not one day, not two , a whole week? This sound like when the work was left on a desk in the ministry of agriculture, when the poor civil servants were blamed for the death of bananas. Only people like you The PM could fool.

If you do not think for yourself, or have no ideas of your own anyone would take you astray. Be a man and think for yourself Vincypowa… nahhhhhh forget it, you are well fed from the gravy train so there is nothing for you to think about. I had a dog, and he was a loyal dog, I use to feed him and pet him from time to time. I could have been the worst man ever, but my dog would have teared anyone to shreds if i told him, you know why? Because I fed him and took care of him. And that’s what you sound like, nothing but a well fed, no mind of you own “nasty dutty dog’.

  9. Owe I forgot to answer the other foolishness you said. this is that you said.

“they broke the law by not DECLARING that they came to WORK in SVG. Moreover, they did the same by their action when the plane landed in Barbados”.

Ok there are so many ways I could answer this it’s not even funny. When I heard about that Immigration nonsense, I knew it was nothing more than the ramblings of a scared man, but let me answer the foolishness you are trying to bring.

WHEN the friends of Argyle international airport went to Canada at the thousand island Vincy picnic and had boxes and bucket taking up funds, did they declare that they were working too (I had family and friends and the whole wolr who saw that shameful display)? because that sound like they were working to me. And what about all the amateur photographers who come and take pictures in Vincy, do they declare that they are coming to work too?, what is “work” anyway, that’s what needs to be defined here, because as I have demonstrated it is not something that can hold up in any court room. Maybe Mr Kenyon just like to get the news because it is his hobby, can the PM prove otherwise?

So If this nonsense is the best the PM can do, as a criminal lawyer then it really is a shame. I could even come up with a better argument, but i wouldn’t have to, since no one has ever forgotten there briefcase at my office and or residence.

  10. VINCYNEEDSASHOWERPOWA, what on earth are you talking about, I never mentioned Tony Blair. But whilst we are at it. Gonsalves can never be held an equal of any other prime minister in a civilised country. He is rude, disgusting, uncouth, has no idea of how to behave himself properly, swears in public, calls citizens bad names like ‘worthless dirty dog’.

He just cannot make the mark, anymore than you can be accepted into society where you are living VP. Your even worse than Gonsalves, because you are a nasty collaborator, for money and crumbs.

And how about his ancesters? tell us about them.

  11. St. Vincent & the Grenadines’ budget is smaller than the BBC’s – Gonsalves. The entire population of St. Vincent & the Grenadines can fit into Manchester United’s football stadium – Gonsalves.

Wen Jiabao is Premier of the Republic of China, Obama the President of the United States of America. Gonsalaves is Prime Minister of St. Vincent of the Grenadines, I am the boss of my company and Bill Gates of his (well used to be).

Equal is relative. But more important, if you play with the puppies you get bitten by the fleas and the BBC is trying to find out who is playing with who.

What’s so wrong with that? It is to our good.
