KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, March 4, IWN – A 4-month-old baby died in hospital on Monday after being involved in a vehicular accident.

The driver of HN267 told police the minibus ran off the road around 11 a.m. in Belair, after the brake failed.

The vehicle ended up in a ditch at the side of the road.

Several occupants of the vehicle, including the baby, were also taken to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital for treatment, where the baby died.

Police are investigating.

Note: This story was updated to reflect a correction in the registration number of the vehicle.

  1. A sad state of affairs. But I have to wonder…when was the last time that vehicle had its brakes service? Brake failure do not just happen; I suspect this is a result of prolonged wear and tear of the brakes and an unwillingness or simple procrastination to address the problem.

Was the baby in the front seat? Given the relatively shallow ditch in this picture, it seems improbable, for even a baby, would died from such an accident sitting anywhere else besides the front seat of this vehicle. But I guess stranger things have happen before.
