Amidst BBC scandal, PM asks citizens to trust him

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, Feb. 20, IWN – Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, on Tuesday, for a third consecutive day, denied accepting a bribe from Dave Ames, as a BBC journalist reportedly suggested.

“I say to the people of this country, trust me; trust your prime minister, you have known me. You may say several things about me, which may not be complementary — those who do not support me. But believe me when I tell you, I am honest, I do not take bribes. I do not take corrupt money. Please, believe that,” Gonsalves said in a call to WE FM from Haiti, where he is attending a CARICOM meeting.

“That is not in my make up and I have been around long enough for you to judge me on that scope. And, do not allow the opposition and BBC journalists to traduce me in this manner and to bring our country down and to want to treat your prime minister as though I am a lesser prime minister than another prime minister,” Gonsalves said.

Gonsalves told the nation on Sunday that BBC journalist Paul Kenyon and one of his colleagues accosted him on an aircraft in Barbados, and asked him to respond to an allegation that Ames came to his office with a briefcase/suitcase and left without it.

He denied accepting a bribe and accused the opposition of joining with the BBC to try to taint his name.

Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace said Monday that he was interviewed by the BBC but denied telling the journalist about Ames and the money, as Gonsalves claimed, citing an unidentified man as having been shown the evidence that implicates Eustace.

“What happen, because the BBC’s budget is bigger than the gross domestic product of St. Vincent and the Grenadines that they can take advantage of us?

“Because BBC probably employs more people than the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines that they feel that they can say anything about Ralph, do anything to me?

“Because they know it is difficult for me to sue them in England?” Gonsalves said.

“But if they defame me, I will find some way to deal with them legally,” said Gonsalves, who said on Monday that he would have to sell all he has to sue the BBC.

“But, most of all, I put myself in the hands of the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the Caribbean. And that is why I have come out in the way in which I have come out,” Gonsalves said.

  1. The good ole SVG PM has finally found a mountain too high to climb?…..these thin-skinned and sensitive leaders like going around dragging people through the courts for every little thing, trying to curtail the right to free speech because they have the money and the links to fight legal battles….now the shoe is on the other foot so Mr ralphy is crying foul…..He is afraid to take on the BBC….is he scared of what else might come out?

  2. At least Gonsalves is consistant, he said the same things about the rape and sexual abuse charges, we must at least listen to his denials.

Shame for him that he once told us he sometimes tell lies, and he also told us a story of which the theme was ‘show me a liar and I will show you a thief’, these are his own words and admissions not mine.

  3. PETER, tell us a LIE told by Dr. Gonsalves.

As always, you will come back with a NO ANSWER to the question posed, but that will not stop you from repeating the same broken record line that you have been spewing for over three years.

Sometimes I think you are a BOT, because you never have anything NEW to say, just REGURGITATING the same lines. With the hope, that if you say them more and more, someone else besides yourself will take you seriously.

  5. VINCYPOWA, there are so many I don’t know where to start. Lets just accept that he is a liar because he himself told us so.

Now that’s pretty simple even for you ‘OH ‘ great pirate king of video and music.

He also told us “show me a liar and I will show you a thief”. He also told us ” I only work Obeah for the Lord”.

VINCYPOWA you are also a known liar, you often repeat the lies generated by Gonsalves.

Remember once a man admits publicly that he is a liar, from that moment no one can believe anything that he says ever again. Gonsalves remains a self branded liar, and if we believe his theory of liars being thieves he is also self condemned as a thief.

  6. Peter VincyPowa is one of the biggest liar in SVG. Remember he wrote on this same IWitness news that Lynch was having fun over Gonsalves accident and ever one prooves him is a liar when one of the brotherens posted a video recording of Lynch wishing Gonsalves a speedy recovery. When Vincy Power can say which other SVG prime minister or primer named was calle
d up in all these dirty allegations ex sexual assault, money laundering, bribe, false pretense and all the others dirty acts then he can bray like a donkey

  7. Peter, it seems like your alter ego ProfDasilva has his pom poms in hand. All we need now is for Bryan Alexander to show up and take ownership of his online personas.

That said; it is good to see that you cannot PROVIDE any EVIDENCE of Dr. Gonsalves LIES.

You and your alter ego are just EMPTY VESSELS, always yapping about matters that you CANNOT PROVE.

Again, provide the evidence that Dr. Gonsalves is a liar.

    See you around, BUB.

  8. VINCYPOWA, because of repetition of questions previously answered, your post has not been selected for reply.

Asking repetitious previously answered questions in the future will bring the same results.
