Lewis thinks senate appointment will up his chances of winning in election

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Chair of the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP), Dr. Linton Lewis, who has lost in elections here thrice, believes that his appointment to the Senate would improve his chance of winning a seat in Parliament.

“It should have a positive impact because people will now have the opportunity to see me and to hear me in the House of Parliament and the type of representation that I will give to the people of East St. George and also for the New Democratic Party, hopefully, it will extend to the whole of St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” he said Tuesday.

Lewis lost once in West St. George and twice in East St. George where Health Minister Clayton Burgin beat him in 2005 and 2010.

Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace announced on radio Tuesday that he has given Lewis the nod to take up the seat left vacant when Anesia Baptiste was fired last month.

“Well, I feel delighted; they have brought me back to the days when I was a child in Calliaqua with the drums. I haven’t lost a touch at all. I am really enjoying myself,” Lewis told radio talk show host and NDP executive member Clemroy “Bert” Francois in Calliaqua Tuesday, where he was among residents drumming in celebration of the announcement.

“I will try my best. I will endeavour to ensure that at least the quality of the House [of Assembly] remains and is improved. I will endeavour to add to it and no doubts my colleagues are doing a good job in the House and I will like to help to maintain that quality of presentation and representation,” said Lewis, a lawyer and accountant.

Lewis, who has won and loss in elections in the St. George constituencies thrice, said that his “critics are few and far in between and there will always be criticisms.

“I grew up as a young boy playing cricket at a very early age for St. Vincent and not everybody supported me,” he said.

“I think that the majority seems to support the position and the selection and you will always have people who have personal grudges. … You will always find these people who have resentment and so on will tend to be destructively critical but I don’t bother with those people,” he further stated.

“I don’t listen to them, as a matter of fact. My focus is developing the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and working in the interest of the New Democratic Party,” he further stated.

  1. COGRATULATIONS TO DR. LEWIS. SOON WE WILL BEGIN TO SEE AND HEAR HIGHER QUALITY DEBATES AND CONTRIBUTIONS COMING FROM THE DREADED SEPULCHER NDP. LINTON IS THE ONLY SPARK OF REAL POLITICS IN THAT DAMNED PLAYPEN NDP. THANK YOU ARHNIM. IT’S FAR OVER DUE BUT IT IS “NOT UNTIMELY NOR UNLIKELY”.

ALOT OF LEWIS’ HATERS IN THE NDP MUST NOW COME TO TERMS WITH THE REALITY OF “MERITOCRACY” WHICH THEY HAVE BEEN AVOIDING. FINALLY LINTON CAN BE MEANINGFUL IN PUSHING HIS POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY AND IN TRYING TO RIVAL OUR ULP “SOCIAL DEMOCRACY”.

WELCOME LINTON WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME. DON’T DISAPPOINT US

  2. Ndp is not a lost party..I do believe that it still has a few ideas N with eustace as a credible economist can take svg out of this negative financial Avalanche and into hopeful economic prosperity however insurmountable d task may be..still yet, one has to realise that it takes much more than a good financial background to be d @ d realm of a financial institution as one must also display high levels of charisma n no doubt strong n influencial leaderdship qualities to survive this dog eat dog world of politicAl canibalism.eustace as opposition leader gives me an ndp support little hope of my party forming gov bcause he certainly lacks d drive to commune with d common man and d skills to motivate his colleages to stand firm…so many failed atemps at successfully. Planning even demonstrations in d ppls interest..r they really better than the ulp..as of lately. They have been proven 2b more or else the sAme..look @what they did 2 anesia n shefflon who cud have made sterling contributions..one can only conclude tthat they wanted to get rid of her 4 other reasons because anesia wrote a letter in private n look what happend stupidness as I see it for what..stiffling a young brilliant mind at an attmpt to make a better svg..look @ major n cummings..as arrogant as ralph n julian..they are all hypocites on both sides n I think anesia n shefflon cud have changed that somewhat ..if u ask me ndp would do btter from an economic stand pooint but it terms of forign policy n so on ulp wud do btte n 2 be honest ulp has deficeit bugets because ralph mismanaged lots of things like too many white elephants And wasted salaries on men like beach n party fanatics but. he spent a lot on education n security too ..ndp had d money in d treasury because Mitchell didn’t take it out to send students to universities and so on so in my view ndp is not an alternative of greater hope but more or less the same as the current..we yearn. 4 better leaders. N politicians so am not gonna waste time bashing ulp when d ndp is more or less d same. So for now I will Remain justifiably critical of both until they can both do something which our ppl deserve.. I refuse to support ndp under eustace, time 4 fresh legs. they will never win unless he leaves..mark my words!!!

  3. LINTON, if your EXCUSE is that being APPOINTED SENATOR will HELP your CHANCES of PREVENTING U of being a FOUR TIME LOSER, it just shows how much of a POOR CANDIDATE you’re in the CONSTITUENCIES of St. GEORGES in the FIRST PLACE.

You’re REJECTED by the PEOPLE of St. GEORGES THREE TIMES already, and U WILL be REJECTED, again, in 2015 DESPITE your ascension to the HOUSE of PARLIAMENT as SENATOR, because you’re SIMPLY a POOR CANDIDATE.

You DO NOT CONNECT with the PEOPLE on the GROUND because of your HOLIER THAN THOU ATTITUDE.

  4. SHANELLE, I APPRECIATE your ATTEMPT at being CRITICAL of the NDP and ULP, but I am PUZZLED by your CLAIM of too MANY WHITE ELEPHANTS, so please give us some EXAMPLES of what you’re REFERRING to.

  5. vincy powa stop being jealous and envy, why don’t you find out how many times the prime minister lost his seat, if it was not for vincent beache moving to south windward he would have never be there.you are envious and begrudging,go and achieve something to feel better about yourself.

  6. SHANELLE what exactly are you saying? Besides having problems trying to figure out what the hell you are saying because of your coded writing, I am having problems following the logic of your comment/argument. I can read standard English or dialect but this text-style writing is totally wacked.
So let us try to follow your argument.
    1. You say NDP has a few ideas. Eustace is a credible economist who can take SVG out of the mess it is in. Then you trun around and said that it take more than this. You went further and said that what is needed is Charisma and strong influenccial leadershipich Eustace does not have. This then according to you disqualifies the NDP from being the party to lead the country out of the very mess you said that it is in because the leader cannot inspire the followers to stand firm. I am confuse. It is obvious that you do not understand what “good” leadership is about. Let me ask you a question? Adolt Hitler was probably one of the most charimatic and influencial leader of our time. Would you say that he was a good leader? Nelson Mandela is not known for Charisma. He is known for his patience and principles. Would you say that Nelson Mandelas a good leader? You seem like a young person. My advise is this: Do some research on qualities of a good leader. Don’t ever assume that leadership is all about charisma. It is not. Leadership is about empowering those who are led to be the best that they can be. Leadership is about people development. It is focusing on people and the potential that lie within them. It is not going around saying there is nobody else but me.. I am the leader…. There is no one lese like me. That is not leadership. This is arrogance.
It is clear that you have a bias against Mr. Eustace. I know Mr. Eustace. You are wrong. If Mr. Eustace was not able to influence his men to stand firm, political voilence would have claimed many lives in SVG already. There is nothing wrong in failure. In every sucess story, there is a string of failures. We have electricity today because of thousands of failed attempts preceding sucess. We can fly around the world todayn aircrafts because of many failed attempts before sucess. So the idea that if some one fail at something then they are a failurekes no sense. People become failure when the fail to persist and continue. So I do not understand, your conclusion that because Mr. Eustace failed a few times that all of a sudden he is a failure. That does not make any kind of sense at all. Tell me something: if you are 300 lbs fat and you go to the gym to exercise for a week, thinking that you will loose 100 lbs within that time. You go on the scale and you find out that you lost only 5 lbs, would you say to hell with it and give up? Would you say that you are a failure? If not, what exactly is the point you are making in your comments.
You said that Cummings and Leacock are arrogant like Julian. Really? And you think that Anesia is an angel? INTERESTING and INCREDIBLE!!. You are joking! Right?

  7. VINCYPOWA, pay the Calliaqua people back the money that you owe them.

  8. PETER, you seem under the impression that your buddy here is the Calliaqua “CARIB emergency CAMP” calypsonian? Well . . . I was a bit familiar with the latter, more so than with “VP” . . . maybe . . . I will have to do some further checking . . . though I am not familiar with that calliaqua tidbit.

  9. HAPPYVINCY, using your TRITE rational, I guess all the DETRACTORS of Dr. Ralph E. Gonsalves are ENVIOUS and BEGRUDGING of HIM.

Peter, Steve_Huggins, AHA, VINCYINBADSHAPE, JOE and all the other RALPH HATERS, HappyVincy, based on his/her comment, said you guys are all JEALOUS and BEGRUDGING of Dr. Ralph Gonsalves. He/she wants everyone of you guys to GO and and ACHIEVE SOMETHING to FEEL BETTER about YOURSELVES.

I guess in HappyVincy’s MIND, that is the only way you’re going to be not JEALOUS and BEGRUDGING of Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.
