Opposition blasts gov’t inconsistency on police abuse

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace said on Tuesday that it is ironic that the government is criticising “the reported assault” of one of the nation’s diplomat by a foreign police officer when it has “sanctioned” the abuse of local politicians by Vincentian police.

The Unity Labour Party administration, led by Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, has launched diplomatic and legal attempts to seek redress for the arrest of hs eldest son, Ambassador to the United Nations Camillo Gonsalves by a New York Police Department cop last Wednesday.

Eustace, in his first public statement on the development, said at a press conference, that the government “sanctioned, whether expressly or tacitly, the battery and assault of its elected politicians by local police officers on Vincentian soil on the 3rd of March 2011”.

He was referring to the physical removal of some opposition Members of Parliament from the assembly chambers on the instruction of House Speaker Frederick Alexander.

Opposition lawmaker and West Kingstown representative Daniel Cummings has said that he suffered a back injury during the ordeal.

Cummings said at the press conference Tuesday that during a demonstration outside the Port Authority several years ago, “police officers and Port officers brutalised an elderly woman.

“The government of this country, up to today, has not made a single condemnation of that heinous act and it is in common with its action. It only seems to speak out when its own person is inflicted, not a Vincentian who is excluded from the ULP fold. And that is not a way to govern a country,” Cummings said.

Eustace further noted that three cops convicted of the assault of a teenaged boy and who lost their appeal in court, were reinstated.

“I therefore call on the Prime Minister and the government of St. Vincent ad the Grenadines to deal evenly with all instances of abuse of power and excessive force, keeping in the foreground at all times, the best interest of all Vincentians, at home and in the diaspora,” Eustace said.

  1. I am honestly surprised the police office wasn’t transferred to NEMO for stopping Ambassador Gonsalves

Imagine this is the MAN who wants to be the PRIME MINISTER of this BLESSED NATION called St. Vincent and the Grenadines, but who basically SUPPORTS an OUT OF PLACE NYPD officer instead of the AMBASSADOR of the country that he wants to govern.

    You are not a LEADER.

    You are a PAPPYSHOW

You are an EMBARRASSMENT to this NATION called St. Vincent and the Grenadines. No LEADER in this CARIBBEAN REGION would RESPECT U for this UNPATRIOTIC, COWARDICE and LEADERLESS STANCE on this MATTER which THREATENS the SOVEREIGNTY of SVG. You are a DISGRACE to the MAJORITY of the people of this nation and to the CARICOM REGION

The FACT that you took SEVEN DAYS, as OPPOSITION LEADER of this NATION, before speaking on this matter clearly DEMONSTRATES that you are not FIT to MANAGE a MAUBY SHOP much less becoming the LEADER of this BLESSED NATION called St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Again, U R A DISGRACE and an EMBARRASSMENT to this BLESSED NATION called St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

  4. When people come on to this blog and make statements like:

…This idiot eustace aint tired making himself look stupid to the world. He is going to go down in history as the dumbest opposition leader ever

…..Imagine this is the MAN who wants to be the PRIME MINISTER of this BLESSED NATION called St. Vincent and the Grenadines, but who basically SUPPORTS an OUT OF PLACE NYPD officer instead of the AMBASSADOR of the country that he wants to govern… When they do this without outlining for readers the basis for these statement, or how they arrived at these things logically, we know that they are just empty barrels trying to sound important. These statements are engined by pure political hate for SVG’s elected opposition leader. I JUST HOPE THAT THEY ARE NOT DEMEMTED ENOUGH TO TRY HARM THE MAN WHEN IN TIME THEY SEE THAT THEY CANNOT STOP HIS POLITICAL MOMENTUM…. So they ought to be just ignored. Please,PETER and other, leave them alone.

Here is a poem for comic relief in relation tro Ralph calling Arnim about the Ambassador’s comess

There was a fella the name ah Ralphie..who?
He leggo a political fart and away it flew
Down the river, and up the lane
And inside ah Arnim’s window pane
Arnim tek up he rusty gun
Shoot the fart and away it flew
Up the river and down the lane
    And inside a Ralphie’s “A*s again!

  5. WEHHA, your POEM is like EUSTACE’S attempts at trying to become the PM of this country, a TOTAL FAILURE.

    • Here we go again. More demented psycho babble! BLA! BLA! BLA! BLA! BLA! BLA!

How has my poem failed? What did I say I was trying to accomplished by composing the poem? By what yard stick did you measure my poem to conclude that it has failed? Ah mean, you just jump up outta the blue and say my peom failed? just so?

The object of my poem was not to provide you or ULP with comic relief. The poem address the fart that Ralph gives out and Arnim’s masterful way of dealing with the “foul wind”… that is, send it back Ralph’s way. The labelled… “Ralph haters” and “the unpatriotic Vincentians” will find that “shti funny”. Not ULP people. So the object of the peom could not be directed to Ralph’s “psycho- babblers” for comic relief, obviously. So how could the peom failed to do something it could never do nor attempted to do?.. that is, amuse ULPites. On the contrary I wanted ULP people to be offended. You are. So the poem actually worked.. not failed, as you concluded. The mere fact that you are responding in this way is my evidence. I know yo trying hard… but!

And what does this has to do with Eustace attempts to become PM?

There is nothing wrong with failure if you keep on trying. For example, ask Ralph how long he was trying to become PM, and how many times he failed. “WTF” are you talking about?

There are things we do not have control over, irrespective how much we tell ourselves we do. For example, saying the sun won’t shine tommorrow, does not mean it will not shine. Saying that Eustace will not become PM does not mean that he will not be PM. Not unless yo’ trying to play GOD!

Warning! ” Anyone who tries to play God is a Devil” ( Bob Marley)

  6. Jason and VincyPowa you are both a sell out of the African Caribbeans. Your dreadful hatred of Mr Eustace shows that you are suffering from the Gonsalves attitude syndrome, which makes you white niggers.

  7. At no point, in this story has in been written that Eustace expressed support for an NYPD officer, or even non-support for Ambassador Gonsalves. He called for consistency in handling matters of police abuses, and excesses! That is something I am sure many Vincentians can relate to. But some of us are so consumed by one, or the other brand of political dogma, that a quest for fair-play, truth and justice is now characterized as a shameful unpatriotic act.

Yet at another time in our history it was, perhaps, quite OK to denigrate our entire justice system in defense of the foreign murderers of a Bequia man! Similarly, the abuses that regimes in Tripoli, Tehran, Damascus or Caracas have dished out to their own citizens, cannot be seen to be even remotely as damning as a fracas with an NYPD cop.

Here is the thing though: Injustice anywhere is a threat to peace and security everywhere. if we are decent human beings we must condemn unjustified acts of violence, whether it is home, in the cities of the ‘imperialistic powers’, or the jurisdictions of our friends.

This nation of our needs a change of attitudes, a return to basic morality! But until we are capable of discerning truth from fiction, and acknowledging them for what they are, we cannot make that change.

  8. A picture is worth a thousand(1,000) words!!! I want to thank the local non-partisan newspaper, “Searchlight” for that front page picture showing the entrance to the Diplomatic Mission in New York. Anyone can look at that picture and see that it coroborates what Ambassador Gonsalves said. In the picture, you can clearly see the barricades with the space between them for entrance purposes. The space is in the immediate vicinity of the police security both, I would say about ten feet. You can definitely see that this space between the barricade was provided for entrance, because as you can see, there are no other space anywhere else in the barricade; they are all fitted closely together where no one can walk through.
I suspect that this officer was engaged in doing something else rather than paying attention to see who was coming and going, and apparently did not see Camillo exit the vehicle. His attention was probably focused elsewhere, and maybe as the Ambassador walked past his booth, he saw the movement out of the corner of his eyes, and when he looked up, Camillo had already gone past him. He panicked for fear of loosing his job, on seeing that Camillo was not white, and started to shout at him. The fact that Camillo paid him no attention made him panicked even further, and that’s when he over reacted, which has brought us to this point.
Looking at the picture brought me to that conclusion. I may be wrong or I may be right. Everyone should look at that picture and it will help to put this situation in a better perspective.

    Posted by Eric Williams | April 5, 2012, 12:14
    • Eric Williams are you some kind of mind reader? Did not Camillo himself said that he breached the barricade? Now you see a still photo in the newspaper and this is evidence that confirmed that even Camillo is lying on himself? That he walked through an opening in the barricade which was there for predestians? and that the police man was otherwise occupied to notice what was going on? And you get all this truth, as if you were there on the scene?…. from a still photo in the non partisian searchlight news paper? Woh! Are you high on something? WTF does wrong with you people?

  9. VINCYPOWA, JASON, your usual crap, attack the truth least it harms Gonsalves or the ULP. What a shame that not a one of you is worthy to clean the shoes of Eustace. Like your master you are just scum.

OVID, its the ULP fiction thats causing all the friction and its the ULP faction that causing all the fraction.

Something big is going on in ALBA, watch this space.

    Posted by Peter | April 5, 2012, 17:08
  10. OVID, has Arnhim Eustace, the OPPOSITION LEADER of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and who wants be the PRIME MINISTER of this BLESSED NATION, SHOWN LEADERSHIP at anytime during this INTERNATIONAL INCIDENT INVOLVING the Ambassador of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the OUT of PLACE New York City police officer?

Here was Mr. Eustace’s OPPORTUNITY to RISE above the fray and SHOW TRUE LEADERSHIP, instead he DEMONSTRATED to this BLESSED NATION and the WORLD that he is the BIGGEST PAPPYSHOW of a LEADER that we have ever seen LEADING a MASS POLITICAL PARTY.

Every time there has been an OPPORTUNITY to show TRUE LEADERSHIP on a NATIONAL issue, he has resorted to PETTY PARTISAN POLITICS, thus FAILED this NATION.

When you cannot RISE above PETTY PARTISAN POLITICS on an INTERNATIONAL MATTER dealing DIRECTLY with the SOVEREIGNTY of the NATION that you want to GOVERN, it means that you’re not READY to HANDLE the STEWARDSHIP of this VESSEL called St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Arnhim Eustace is a FAILURE as a LEADER. He has NEVER EVER DEMONSTRATED LEADERSHIP since James Mitchell SELECTED him to take over his POSITION as PM after his RESIGNATION.

CARICOM, PERMANENT MISSIONS throughout the UNITED NATIONS, BLACK ORGANIZATIONS, the GOVERNMENT of SVG, the MAJORITY of Vincentians and WELL WISHERS are all in SOLIDARITY with Ambassador Gonsalves on this issue.

Who are the only ones NOT in SOLIDARITY with Ambassador Gonsalves of St. Vincent and the Grenadines? Yes LADIES and GENTLEMEN, it has been the UNPATRIOTIC Arnhim Eustace, the UNPATRIOTIC NDP and their UNPATRIOTIC PSYCHO supporters.

Arnhim Eustace wants to become PRIME MINISTER of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, yet he took a WEEK before RESPONDING to this INTERNATIONAL INCIDENT affecting the SOVEREIGNTY of our BLESSED NATION.

He allowed his party, the NDP, and its SUPPORTERS to BEAT UP on Ambassador Gonsalves and his father (the PRIME MINISTER of this BLESSED NATION), done to score CHEAP POLITICAL POINTS (like they do EVERYTHING), and for SEVEN LONG DAYS, before he came to the nation at a so-called PRESS CONFERENCE to tell the WORLD that, basically, he is not in SOLIDARITY with HIS GOVERNMENT, CARICOM, the MAJORITY of VINCENTIANS and NON-VINCENTIANS, the PERMANENT MISSIONS at the UNITED NATIONS, BLACK ORGANIZATIONS and MORE in SUPPORT of Camillo Gonsalves, the AMBASSADOR of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to the United Nations.

In closing, I will quote a Vincentian.

“It is so sad, that someone whose ambition is to lead a country can have such profound loyalty above and beyond the country he wants to lead. It is a downright disgrace. ” What will America say” has been his battle cry for a very long time. Sad indeed.”

  11. Vincypowa, having a pm being accused of rape twice is embarrassing.having black men/women applaud obviously racist statements is embarrassing.having a drug dealer released as a matter of natl security is embarrassing.Having unelected officials given invented posts putting a strain on the economy despite the govt barely winning the election is embarrassing.Permanent secretaries accused of theft is embarrassing.People with diplomatic passports accused of drug trafficking is embarrassing.Being the biggest begging bowl nation in the Caribbean is embarrassing.Selling the national bank, and supermarket establishments that have been around for decades is embarrassing.Filing more lawsuits than any sane leader in any democratic society is embarrassing.A leader appointing their son ambassador unless that son is a Gadaffi,a Mugabe or a Sultan is embarrassing
Once upon a time powa, the bar was set high, and people expected leaders to jump over the bar, your pm limbos under the bar..How low can he go Vincypowa?
Chavez yo want to see me dance, watch this :”one cent, two cent, ten cent, dolla, gimme dolla,dolla…….”. Vincypowa it’s called the global dolla wine

  12. JOE, Gonsalves is incapable of lumbering over or limbering under anything, even Saturday mornings are a continueing failure now.

He needs something like a block and tackle or an engine lift. I am told he now gets someone else to lace his shoes up, he is so fat. He frequently urinates on his shoes and trousers, its out of site man, out of site.

What a fat pratt cat twatt

  13. I think what Peter and other are not realising is that what happened to the opposition members in parliament was unfortunate but LEGAL….the speaker of the Hose has the right to remove anyone who is in breach of the House rules. He can have them forcible removed if necessary….what happened to Camillo Gonsalves was absolutely ILLEGAL…The Vienna convention absolutely ensures that…So anyone who wants to compare what happend to the NDP parlimentarians and what happened to Camillo Gonsales are comparing apples to oranges

    Posted by proud vincy | April 11, 2012, 11:28
  14. PROUD VINCY, why are you trying to prove wrong is right, are you part of the Gonsalves IT team that tries to prove that wrong is right, least the truth damages Gonsalves and the Unity Liars Party?

With regards to the beating up of the opposition party in SVG parliament, I believe that the Spunker of the House was working on prearranged instructions and so were the police. I believe this to be part of a conspiracy.

In NY, Mule Gonsalves failed to prove or even offer evidence that he was a diplomat, up until that time whatever police officer Parker did was on the head of this young, inexperienced and undiplomatic idiot boy.

Like his father he is very arrogant and big headed.

It really is time for Donkey, Mule and Spunker to go!
