Opposition’s meetings not PM’s business – Eustace

Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace (File photo).

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Who the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) meets with and what it discusses with them is the party’s business and has nothing to do with Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.

This was the view of Opposition Leader, NDP President Arnhim Eustace this week in response to statements by Gonsalves that the NDP leadership met with its financiers in Antigua two weeks ago and promised them to reinstate an economic citizenship programme here.

“… the New Democratic Party has the right to have any meeting, anytime, anywhere with any group we decide we want to meet,” Eustace said on radio.

He, however, said that the party is still open to reinstate the economic and honorary citizenship programme that was discontinued when Gonsalves’ Unity Labour Party administration came to office in 2011.

He said that the NDP would decide what to disclose to the public “in due course”.

“That is not for the Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to determine. It is not his business. … We choose our relationships and we discuss what we have to discuss. That is our right. … We have no obligation to provide the Prime Minister with any information about what we discussed. I don’t ask him what he discussed,” Eustace said.

Eustace said that the United States, Canada, other Caribbean nations and countries across the world have economic citizenship programmes that are similar to the one his party advocates.

The aim, he said, is to woo bona fide investors to a particular country while ensuring that due diligence prevent “scamps” from being accepted.

“Once you can satisfy yourself with that, you should be able to manage such programmes. … What we have to be careful about is that we have the kinds of arrangements in place where we can look closely into the background of such people before accepting them.”

Eustace said that St. Kitts and Nevis, which has an economic citizenship programme, has been able to finance a lot of project there despite their large national debt, which is almost twice that nation’s GDP.

He noted the potential benefits of such a programme adding that a country with such a programme must also determine what fees its economic citizens pay to help fund government initiatives.

“It is not something we have overlooked. We have examined it and if we feel that it can be done, and we can benefit from it, the Prime Minister can talk as he continues to cause the decline in the financial situation in this country to the point now we can’t pay our day-to-day bills,” Eustace said one week after telecommunications company LIME disconnected many of the government’s telephone lines because of non-payment.

  1. So Eustace is saying “any thing ULP does is not NDP’s business”? So what is the fuss if they friend -up with Chavez? Arnhim real stupid. He should deal with the main issue or shut his mouth.

    • KALA SADD, where in the above article can I find: “any thing ULP does is not NDP’s business”? Or where was this implied? I am focusing on the word ..”ANYTHING..” here. Please tell me. Because, I have read the above writing and I am at a lost as to what exactly you are speaking about in the context of the discussion.

The following are the quotes which relates to what you are probably refering to:

      1. “Who the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) meets with and what it discusses with them is the party’s business and has nothing to do with Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves”

      2. “… the New Democratic Party has the right to have any meeting, anytime, anywhere with any group we decide we want to meet,”

Mr. Eustace is talking about the internal party matters here. The point he is rightly making.. is that the NDP is not accountable to the ULP regarding internal party matters. And I add, that neither is the ULP accountalbe to the NDP for its internal affaris.

Mr. Gonsolves is the leader of the country. He is also the Leader of the ULP. So while NDP has no business with ULP’s internal affairs, the NDP (and all of us) have every right to make a fuss about anything ULP does as the governing party, once the ULP party does it IN THE NAME OF SVG.

There is a difference between party business and the national business. Once ULP has the power to act on behalf of the country, then what it does is all of our business including NDP’s. So if even Mr. Eustace had said what you quote him as saying: “any thing ULP does is not NDP’s business” in the context of party matters, he will be 100% correct. But when you add: So what is the fuss if they friend -up with Chavez? .. That makes it a completely different issue.

But I don’t know if you have the capcity to understand this:.. but “ANYTHING” the ULP, as the government does, on behalf of THE COUNTRY, is all of our business. So if Ralph as the leader of the country and leader of the ULP friends-up with Chavez, then that is no longer just ULP party business. That is national business. So if NDP or any other person makes a fuzz over that, they have every right to so do.

Frankly, I do not think that you placed any thought into what you are saying here. Maybe it is lack of understanding and being unable to defferential the difference between internal party matters and national matters. I HOPE THIS HELPS.

So labelling Mr. Eustace as stupid in this regard is very wrong.

My advice to you is this: think hard ,if you can, about what you say before you say it. Don’t just follow your party blindly. Analyse, reason and think for yourself. Please!

      • Since when selling citizenship (Our Birth Right) a party issue. Why don’t you try to be a little objective for once?

  2. After READING the SCHOOLBOY TRIPE by Arnhim Eustace, you know this EXCUSE of a LEADER of a MASS PARTY is not FIT to MANAGE a MAUBY SHOP much less becoming the PRIME MINISTER of a country.

    • Don’t bother. Gonsalves in so much trouble that he trying to distract attention away from his
and the financial difficulties which he has brought this country to. His utterings are so nonsensical, that only
geniuses like POWA etc can see great clarity and genius in them. Takes one genius to discern another eh?

Please don’t be distracted. Keep your eyes on Gonsalves and the ULP as they continue to spin in the wind

  4. Proud Vincy:
This might be of some help to you. The help therefore, bay be in a few questions and may require some deep thinking and (perhaps) some investigation.
    1. When did the issue of the opposition meeting in Antigua come into focus?
    2. Who brought this issue into the spotlight?
    3. What scandalous news report was in the news before before this story broke?
    4. Could the opposition travel itinerary and their personal contacts be a distraction to some other set of issues, big or small occuring in the country?

I do not claim to have the answers; I am just following the news sequence and I’m trying to make sense out of it. I am also not taking any side of the issue. As a Vincy in the diaspora (as do many on this media outlet)I am too seeking clarification.

  5. @Dwells, there seem to be more questions than answers. But i posed my question to really try to understand if there is really that big of a concern about who members of the opposition meets. I hear the talks about no confidence motion, but i still need to know why it is such a huge concern who they meet with since they may not be able to do much once in opposition. Is it that they KNOW that the Ralph Gonsalves administration is gonna fall so they are putting plans in place?…Do they know something that the rest of us dont know…am just curious

  6. KEN, your POST makes no SENSE outside of PURE SHIT TALKING.

I can EASILY say you NEED SATAN because GOD is no HELP to you.

How does that CONTRIBUTE to the DISCUSSION at hand?

Anyhow, it is the BUSINESS of the PRIME MINISTER of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to let the PEOPLE know what EUSTACE and the NDP are up to, especially if their decisions could have a NEGATIVE IMPACT on this BLESSED NATION.

In other words, if Eustace and the NDP are SEEKING to do BUSINESS with FOREIGNERS to SELL VINCENTIAN PASSPORTS, then it is MOST DEFINITELY the BUSINESS of this GOVERNMENT and the PM to inform the masses about events that could have a NEGATIVE IMPACT on this BLESSED NATION, if ever the NDP becomes the government of the day.

Eustace and the NDP know that once that International Airport is completed; there is no chance in hell that they will be able to govern this blessed nation. Therefore, if it means lying in bed with unscrupulous foreigners, with the end result being a greater opportunity to govern this country, as they have tried and continue to try with SCL, Eustace and his party are POWER HUNGRY enough to SELLOUT our people and BLESSED NATION for their OWN SELFISH NEEDS.

    • You think that Eustace is power hungry, think back to the period 1992 to 2001, and ask Ralph to gave you a synopsis of his political activities and you will discove epitome of power-Hungryness- Ralph

  7. Eustace must be a 100% spot on, the proof is in the venomous and violent reaction by the supporter of Marxist scum, VINCYPOWA.

VINCYPOWER is a form of pure evil, he supports Gonsalves and the ULP against the truth by uttering lies. He does this for financial recompense, he is a paid supporter of Marxist scum.

VINCYPOWER, Mr Crapola, you really are rubbish, the worst kind of Vincentian.

  8. “In other words, if Eustace and the NDP are SEEKING to do BUSINESS with FOREIGNERS to SELL VINCENTIAN PASSPORTS, then it is MOST DEFINITELY the BUSINESS of this GOVERNMENT and the PM to inform the masses about events that could have a NEGATIVE IMPACT on this BLESSED NATION, if ever the NDP becomes the government of the day.”…. And your POINT IS?????

Tell me something: Can NDP sell passport in Opposition? NDP will never get into power according to the” ULP Soca Baptist prophet” .. VINCY POWA, so what is the fuss about?.. since it will and can never happen. Was there a economic citizenship under the NDP for the 17 properous years? Did the skies fall in over SVG because of this?

What is this big secret suppose to be about. Hear this: “Eustace said that the United States, Canada, other Caribbean nations and countries across the world have economic citizenship programmes that are similar to the one his party advocates. The aim, he said, is to woo bona fide investors to a particular country while ensuring that due diligence prevent “scamps” from being accepted.
………“Once you can satisfy yourself with that, you should be able to manage such programmes. … What we have to be careful about is that we have the kinds of arrangements in place where we can look closely into the background of such people before accepting them.”

So VINCY POWA, We all ears! Educate us about the negative impact that this economic citizenship had on the country during NDP days and what negative impact it is likely to have on the country in the future. Explain to us the negative impact it has on Canada, USA, ST. Kitts Nevis and all the other Caribbean countries that now has the programme and why we should avoid it .

Questions that need you explanation: Should SVG revoke the citizenship of the Serians, Indians, Americans, Europeans and Canadians who are doing business here in as you say OUR BLESSESD Land? What about the Cubans and the Venezuelans working here. Should we send them packing. What about the Chinese? What about the people who have properties in Canouan, Mustique, Petit St. Vincent? Should we send them all back because they are bad for SVG? What about the owners of the Buccament Resort? Why are they allowed to bring in everything in the country virtually free while Vincy business people have to pay big money at the port. Ah mean these are Colononist foreigners? Shouldn’t we chase then out of our blessed land? Way we bigging dem up for? What about the people who setting up the Cocoa project? Dem ah foreigners too. Shouldn’t we chase then outta SVG? EXPLAIN THIS TO US VINCY POWA. I know you gwine come with yo’ same ole sh*t talk. Eustace can’t run a mauby shop…….. We ah Ralph haters.. We preaching negativity… BLA! BLA! BLA! BLA! BLA!. Save it. Let us have a real discussions on this matter. Explain this sh*t to us. I hope you can because I believe that you are just a “ULP parrot” only capable of mimmicking the few words Ralph and them boys teach yo to talk. PROVE ME WRONG? I DEAR YOU.

  9. The prime minister wants to take our country back to the days of the cold war when spying on other countries leaders was the name of the game. Why does the pm wants to continue to embaress him self and the pm of other countries to have the police officers intrude on visitors privacy and brags about his dispicable behaviour at home.
Surly our pm wants the world to know that he is no different from Chaves, Assad, Gadafy and all like minded dictators. In oue vincentian context spying on your political rivals tantamount to murder of your.

  10. Yes it is a known fact that NDP had a meeting in Antigua.

Whatever Gonsalves has said about that can be discounted, because he is a self confessed and known liar.

As a known liar nothing that Gonsalves says can be accepted without independent verification.

You see Gonsalves how your stupidity comes back and bites you in the arse.

HISTORY MUST SHOW GONSALVES AS A LIAR.
