Senator Frederick must rid self of ‘assumptions’ – PM

Opposition Senator Vynnette Frederick and Prime Minister Dr. Ralph (File montage).

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – The opposition senator who was last week forgot the meaning of an abbreviation in a question she asked in Parliament “must cleanse herself of two sets of assumptions”, according to Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.

Vynnette Frederick, the opposition shadow minister for technology, told Parliament that she had forgotten what “LTE” means, after Gonsalves asked her to explain the meaning of the abbreviation to legislators.

After an extended exchange between Gonsalves and Frederick about the meaning of the abbreviation, Gonsalves told legislators that it stands for “Long-Term Evolution”.

“… Senator Frederick must cleanse herself of two sets of assumptions, which is what got her into trouble,” Gonsalves said on radio last week.

“The first is to assume that she knows more on a subject than she actually knows,” he further stated, adding that the senator, on some subjects, assumes that she knows “more than everybody else”.

“The second bundle of assumptions is to assume that persons to whom you direct questions that those persons don’t know,” he added.

Gonsalves, 65, said that there is an idea among some that in order to understand information technology and the policy related to it “you have to be on Twitter, you had to be blogging, on Facebook, every minute you sending BBM messages and so on”.

“I use the computer to educate myself. … Now people feel that because you are not involved in blogging, you are a complete illiterate,” he said.

He said that as Minister of Technology, he has to study the policy issues.

“I have been in the street. I have been in the trenches. When you come to me to ask a question, doesn’t it register in your head that this man, anything you ask him, that he is going to take a great care in addressing it?”

Gonsalves noted that in a previous question Frederick has used the acronym “CITE-SVG” and he explained what it means and warned her about the abbreviations in the following question.

“She didn’t even realise that I was, in a fatherly way, both helping her, if she knew everything, but setting her up as a cross-examiner, just in case because my instinct told me that she as making two dangerous assumptions, which I just referred to,” said Gonsalves, a lawyer.

“Now, she is a young lady. She has passion. But passion alone can’t get you anywhere. You have to study things, which means you have to be committed to things. … Passion is important, you know. But if you only have passionate intensity, you are not going anywhere,” Gonsalves further said.

  4. Here we go again.I would really like to address Our Prime Minister as Honorable but his behaviour only require Ralph. On this issue he has already sucked the energy out of Senator Frederick by belittling her intelligence so that he could feel good about himself. That is the way of a Vampire. He is not satisfied so he comes back for more blood. Cut the crap Ralph because you only found out what LTE meant the day before the parlimentary meaning in anticipation of her asking you that question. You could have enlightened Vincentians on the subject but you choose to make yourself look like the real Bimbo. For God’s sake you are Head of a Nation of very intelligent people and you should start acting like it or maybe you just dont know how.LTE is all about the Tele-communication companies marketing their products to keep ripping off your people well into the future. They gave 4G speed now and act as if it’s the best the World has known. Then next year they gave 5G and so on and make you throw away your phone for the same piece of crap that they are offering. In short thats what Long Term Evolution is all about. Its not what the Abbreviation stands for but what it is.

  9. Dr. Gonsalves is telling Vynette Frederick that PASSION without KNOWLEDGE is not going to get you far.

In other words, Dr. Gonsalves is giving Vynette GREAT ADVICE.

I am sure the YOUNG PEOPLE have taken NOTE of Vynette embarrassing herself in the HOUSE of PARLIAMENT, thus will LEARN from her LACK of PREPARATION.

Thanks to Dr. Gonsalves testing Vynette’s PREPAREDNESS, young people now know that FAIL TO PREPARE is to PREPARE to FAIL.

  10. I have just read a few of the comments above and I must be missing something. If someone asks a question surely they should know what they are asking. The question to the PM wasn’t LTE is used in lots of country what is it and when are we going to get it. She could have meant anything when she used the initials LTE therefore it was only right that she was asked to clarify what she meant. Then to compound her difficult situation she had to ask the PM to explain what she meant. Ms Frederick only has herself to blame for appearing to be so foolish.

  11. VINCYMALPRACTICEPOWA, go stick your head where the sun doesn’t shine. Your crap doesn’t have any effect anymore. Your past behaviour is despicable and rules you out as a credible voice in anything Vincention. You are one of the most disliked people under your real name and also your assumed name, as someone said in a past post elsewhere you would be happy to be “toilet paper of Gonsalves”.

You are unable to be truthful in your posts and like Gonsalves are a serial liar. Therefore whatever you say cannot be believed, because you are a proven liar.

Pay the people in Calliaqua the money you owe them.

  13. Before anyone speaks once should know what they are speaking about or else one looks like a fool.

How funny will it be if a lecturer at a college ask the class “what is LTE” and now one knows. So the teacher goes on to tell them what it means. So a child decides that they going home on their laptop received from the ULP to research on LTE and low and behold its two different things.

So he goes to class the next day and say “Miss i think what you told us yesterday about LTE is incorrect”. You were speaking about something else and this is what it actually mean.

    Does this prove:

    1. The student is trying to be-little teacher and should be rebuked.
    2. The teacher came un-prepared to do a lecture.

Peter i want you to answer me without tellng me anything about marxist.

  14. A tyrant is someone who rules by causing suffering to the people and land they preside over. They care only about themselves and how to attain more power and wealth, usually through exploitation of the region’s resources and the detriment of its population.

  15. PETER, I have no problem being called one of the MOST DISLIKED persons by the FANATICAL and DIEHARD supporters of a party that is LACKING VISION and LEADERSHIP, and so has to TURN EVERYTHING into NEGATIVE PROPAGANDA and PARTISAN POLITICS, because they have nothing else to CONTRIBUTE to the FORWARD PROGRESS of this BLESSED NATION.

In FACT, I have NO PROBLEM that I am one of the MOST DISLIKED bloggers on this blog, because it means that what I am CONTRIBUTING to this BLOG is most DEFINITELY EFFECTIVE.

Therefore, when I see you and the other FANATICAL and DELUSIONAL SUPPORTERS of the NDP carry on in a MATTER that gives the IMPRESSION of being EMOTIONALLY UNSTABLE, I SMILE.

    See you around BUB.

    Posted by vincypowa | March 6, 2012, 12:48
  16. Got you again, el jerko, see how you had to use the word BUB, because you cannot express yourself sufficiently, and rightfully feel inferior. Being such an idiot makes your blood rage through your vanes and your head feel like its exploding, isn’t that just great, BUB.

Well VINCYmalpracticePOWA, pay the Calliaqua people back their money.

JOHN. your being a silly Billy, Gonsalves isn’t a teacher and she’s not a child. Gonsalves should be above such condescending behaviour. Gonsalves has said and done more stupid things in his life time than anyone else I have ever known. Of course he has got those idiot clones like VINCYPOWA, but they are just fools that he uses.
He would be a great Prime Minister if only he was not such a nasty person and didn’t tell lies, oh nearly forgot, and wasn’t a Marxist.

  17. NDP just dumb!! That’s why one day their children will grow up and realize that their parents were lying to them. The undeniable progress that only D COMRADE and his team is able to achieve for them in the future. If left to the NDP only them and they family could prosper in vincy.#FACT!!

  19. JASON, you need to stop being such an idiot, you are becoming the laughing stock of the internet. Obviously your what Gonsalves describes as one of his dunce class.

God will punish you for your evilness and for your support of the ‘Beast’ the Lord of Darkness.

When you say prosper, are you referring to the US$1 million laundry money?
