KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Member of Parliament for East Kingstown Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace says he is concerned about violence in Walvaroo after two men were shot there last Tuesday night.

Police say that Dwight Pierre, 27, and Curtis Phillips, 34, both labourers from the East Kingstown community, sustained gunshot wounds to their heads during the incident

Police responded to a shooting incident in the area and found both men lying on the ground with the gunshot wounds.

Eustace said he visited the area on Wednesday morning.

“And I am saying something today as representative of East Kingstown. I am very disturbed by what I see is the growing sense of gang warfare in Walvaroo. As I walked around and spoke with residents there that day, a lot of people expressed to me … their concerns about the state of affairs,” said Eustace, who has been representing the constituency since 1998.

He said that residents spoke of pellets falling on their rooftops and, in one case, one going through a window.

There have been other shootings in the area, and residents “expressed this unease that they feel,” Eustace said.

“I spoke to a lot of people. Some were our supporters; some were ULP (Unity Labour Party) supporters. They all had one common theme and that theme was they are worried about this outbreak of violence that is taking place in Walvaroo and something has to be done about it,” the New Democratic Party president said.

“… It is really tragic to see the number of young persons, not only in Walvaroo but in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, who have been wounded by the gun in the last few years,” he said.

“And I find that in my constituency, in Walvaroo, that is taking on proportions that are way above normal for such a small area of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and I look forward to having further discussions on this matter very shortly because something has got to be done about it.”

Eustace said the situation should not be encouraged. “… we all take whatever steps we think are necessary to cool the temperature down in that area of that constituency. The more you think about it, it is really a very difficult situation and I intend to play my part in seeing what I can do to deal with that situation.”

He said he spoke with a group of mostly young ladies and many of them were concerned that one of the young men shot was “a quiet, law-abiding” citizen.

“And they were quite upset about the shooting. And I found that across party lines,” Eustace said, adding that while the women were sympathetic, they were also concerned about what had happened and wanted to see peace return to their community.

  1. OK NOW THIS IS A PERFECT OPPORTUNITY FOR MR EUSTACE, AS A SOCIAL SCIENTIST TO CREATE A MODEL OUT OF HIS CONSTITUENCY AND PARTICULARLY BY SETTING UP WALVAROO AS A ‘CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT’ AND EXPERIMENT, TO POUR IN HIS VAST INTELLECTUAL KNOWLEDGE AND HIS EXPERIENCE IN ALLOCAATING SCARCE RESOURCES TO EFFECT CHANGE.

LET HIM BEGIN WITH CREATING “A KINDER AND GENTLER” CONSTITUENCY AND THEN EXPAND THE MODEL THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. IT’S QUITE E.Z AND I WOULD BE WILLING TO WORK ON THE GROUND [FOR A MODEST FEE] TO PROVOKE THIS REVOLUTION IN EAST KINGSTOWN. REMEMBER “PARTY CANNOT ACCOMPLISH WHAT PARTICIPATION WILL”.

DO LIKE LUKE AND GET SOME “ARHNIM KIDS” NOW IS THE TIME TO MAKE UP YOUR OWN BED FIRST. IT’S DIFFICULT BECAUSE IT WILL REQUIRE SOME GENUINE MINGLING AND INTERACTION EVEN WITH SOME OF THE DREGS IN SOCIETY, BUT ECONOMICS AND POLITICS BOTH HAVE TO DO WITH PEOPLE, NOT BOOKS AND COLD STATS. SO LET’S SEE WHAT BALLS THIS NI@GER HAS.

NOW IS THE TIME TO SHOW HOW TO IMPLEMENT THE “SPIRITUAL, SOCIAL REDEMPTION CHARTER” STEP BY STEP. IF YOU ARE GONNA BUILD A “WATTLE AND DARB” YOU ARE GONNA HAVE TO PUT YOUR HAND IN MUD MR EUSTACE. WE AND YOU DON’T HAVE MUCH TIME. PROVE YOURSELF ME BWOY. YOU CAN’T BLAME RALPH 4 THIS…DAMN

    • Let me refresh your memory dude, Ralph said that whoever is in office, the crime falls on them. He said that the crime back in the 90’s was all because of the NDP.
So FUDZ, am i to assume that Ralph was correct when he said that his own followers DO NOT READ?? Because that was in the 2001 manifesto….. go look for that page bro, can’t be hard to find. Lets see what balls you have to look this FACT up. Prove me or ralph wrong……please

  3. RALPH SCHMALPH…ARHNIM IS A BRILLIANT SOCIAL SCIENTIST…LET HIM CREATE A MODEL FOR US BECAUSE HE IS THE “PRIME MINISTER IN WAITING”, SO FOLLOWING YOUR CRAPPY REASONING V.I.B.S [WITH THE EMPHASIS ON ‘BS’], WHEN ARHNIM BECOMES PM, CRIME WILL BE HIS FAULT. CRIME HAS TO BE TACKLED PERSON BY PERSON, HOME BY HOME, GROUP BY GROUP, VILLAGE BY VILLAGE, ECONSTITUENCY BY CONSTITUENCY..THAT’S THE WAY IT IS OR DO YOU GET A HARD ON BY BLAMING RALPH? RALPH WILL GO ARHNIM WILL COME. CRIME WILL STILL NEED TO BE DEALT WITH..

  4. There is a very simple remedy to help slash the crime in SVG, a very simple way to get the culprits of crime.

There are two steps required, one is to get rid of Gonsalves and the Unity Liars Party under which crime has bred like a colony of rabbits. The second step I will tell you about after the demise of all this Marxist scum regime.
