KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Two children on Saturday night watched as a man repeated stabbed their mother, reportedly 18 times, in Brighton.

According to reports, Kenisha Belgraves’ children were in the back seat of a car she was driving while her friend Claudine Simmons was seated in the front passenger seat when the attack occured.

Both Belgraves and Simmons were injured during the attack and were up to last night in stable condition at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH), this country’s main healthcare facility.

The attack is said to have been carried out by a man with whom Belgraves had a relationship and may have been as a result of a domestic dispute.

The attack Sunday night continues a trend from 2011, when several Vincentians women were either killed or seriously injured by male attackers.

Two months ago, Givvon Bynoe, 23, of Paget Farm, Bequia survived a cutlass attack by a man with whom she had a relationship.

Bynoe was hospitalised at the MCMH for 11 days as a result of the multiple chops she received across her body, including to her neck and face.

She suffered a fractured left collarbone, has problems moving her head and neck, and severed nerves in her face, which need surgery to repair. She also has speech impairment as a result of the injuries she sustained.

On Jan. 4, Alvisha Browne, a 19-year-old mother of three, died on the spot in Ottley Hall after receiving a bullet to the head.

  6. Unreal…must we start the new year the same way we ended the old one? The children witnessing such a vicious act makes it even more unbelievable…You have to wonder what is going through people’s mind these days..

  8. People need the Lord. It’s time we understand that peace and hope are only found in God. Politicians, please understand that policies and programmes are secondary to the surrendering of one’s heart and control of one’s being by God, Jehovah.

I call on our spiritual leaders, especially, to embark on more vigorous propagation of the Gospel – this is the only hope for mankind. You need to stop being involved in partisan politics and focus on what God had called you to, if, in fact, He has called you.

  11. I sympathise with the ladies and their families. There are wicked people all over the world who will forever do wicked things until the world ends….So Peter, would you also blame Barack Obama for all the rapes, murders and abuses happening in the USA?

  12. Marsha D Peter was specifically refering to’women abuse’, the kind of feminine abuse where women are beheaded and chopped into pieces like somebody choping meat at the meat stall. It don’t think he was refering to crimes among everysex gender and every groups. That is to say, women specially in SVG are ‘branded’ to suffer like a slaughtered animal ready to to be roasted and eaten. Don’t be surprise that the era of cannablism may have cycled this way again. Folks please don’t compare SVG crimes with that the USA ,Canada,South America,Europe or even Trinidad and Jamaica. On some world maps SVG is never mentioned or seen and if it is there you need a microscope. With that you can draw your inference.Yes the government does tell people to commit crimes, but the court need to give people life imprisonment for murder, 15-25 years for rape depends on the stuation and so forth. When folks know that they will die in jail they will have second thoughts.Furthermore, the penalty for most crimes like these in the USA is either death penalty or rotten in jail.Yes I agree that women should ‘run for the life’ and ask for Asylum where ever they can get it.

  13. Prof-Da-Silva, I do agree that we need stiffer penalties for crimes especially for some of those henious ones that we have been seeing in the recent past.. However we still depend on the constitution and the law court to deal with these people. And I am still appauled that we cant use the dealth penalty for some of these murders. The reasoning I have been hearing is that they are not the ” worst of the worst’ according to the Privy Council in the Uk. So maybe we need to get rid of the damn Pricy council and get deal with wicket criminals ourselves….But who is responsible for that really?….Can the authority just change thigns so or do we need consultations ?????…However my main point was you will find henious crimes allover the place. Some countried have much worst than here. And althught we are a tiny country people here are just as wicket as any place else . We are not unique in that regards…And I agree with anyone who needs to get away if they think they are not safe in their country..
