KINGSTOWN St. Vincent – The parliamentary opposition should not support in Parliament any bills for loans for the Argyle International Airport unless it sees the agreement the government has signed with Venezuela, Member of Parliament for Central Kingstown, St. Clair Leacock said on Wednesday.

Caracas is among Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves’ “coalition of the willing” that is partnering with this country to build the EC$652 million Argyle International Airport.

Gonsalves has said that the Hugo Chavez government has agreed to pay Cuban working on the project.

But the government in Kingstown, as of last August, had been paying EC$368,572 per month in wages to the Cuban and Caracas was yet to take up the EC$8.78 million tab.

“They are the ones that promised that it wouldn’t cost us a cent,” Leacock of the opposition New Democratic Party said on Wednesday of the Gonsalves’ Unity Labour Party administration.

“They never brought the airport project to the Parliament for oversight. In fact, up to now, the Parliament has been treated with contempt.

“We still don’t know what is the content of the agreement … between St. Vincent and Venezuela with respect to the airport, whether it is a person to person, whether it is a country, whether it is a leader to leader and whether government change they would just renege on what they have,” Leacock said.

“In fact, unlike loans that came to the Parliament and have to be debated for parliamentary approval, I think that on that we should take a stand. If we don’t see the agreement we not giving any support to it,” he said.

“But clearly, the airport needs to be financed without creating a tax burden on the backs of the people,” Leacock said of the project, which, according to the ULP administration would not cost Vincentian taxpayers any money.

  1. Gonsalves the Venezuelans do owe us the $10 million, if they promised us the money to pay for the Cubans wages that is a contract. If they hadn’t promised the money we wouldn’t of paid the Cubans. They owe us the money.

I suspect that the whole thing was a lie on the part of Gonsalves, he was hoping to get it but no comitment by the Venezuelans.

If this was a lie by Gonsalves, he owes us the money. Its got to be either his stupidity for not getting a written agreement, or it was an outright lie by him.

Can we trust Gonsalves to tell us the truth in any matter, after all he is a self confessed liar.

For an educated man Gonsalves is one of the most stupid people I have ever known.

GONSALVES YOU OWE SVG THE MONEY OR GET THAT SCUM STATE VENEZUELA TO BE HONEST WITH US AND PAY UP.

  2. The opposition will be dummies if they sign-off on something they have not seen, or read. By the way can some body help me here: Who is responsible for collecting the garbage from the streets, drains and beaches in the towns and villages?
There is a need for local town and villages councils to handle issues in their respective areas. Their mandates should also include the roads, so that they don’t have the pot-holes found throughout the entire leeward side of the island. Taxes collected from these areas should be used to fund these necessary services.
These are issues one should raise and use in election debates, because they are issues close to the people’s hearts. No election should be run on the party leaders, because they are more of an issue that the topics they debate.

  3. We should take no more loans, period. We are bankrupt and will never be able to repay what loans Gonsalves has already saddled us with.

GONSALVES FOLLEY, to be paid for by the coalalition of the willing, to cost the Vincentian Tax payer nothing, and when finished there will be no debt for the nation.

WHAT A BUNCH OF LIES AND LIARS, GONSALVES AND THE UNITY LIARS PARTY.

He and his cousin the Francis boy, having lied and decieved us should be held personaly responsable for the whole thing, EUSTACE put them on notice, those who lie to the people pay the bill. The whole airport project has turned out to be a confidence trick and an act of gross deception against the people of SVG.

Unfortunatly the sheep of SVG follow the scum without question, what a nation of idiots we have turned out to be.

The old folk hated Gonsalves and all those other Marxists, wouldnt elect them, wrote whole columns in the newspapers about him and his Marxist friends.

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE SULPHUR, THIS IS A WICKED MARXIST REGIME
